"Free Reality Check"

Postby Paul » Thu Jun 03, 2010 5:19 am

Hello all,

We are asking if there is anyone in reading this thread who can make us a promotional wooden barrow to take into Plymouth city centre?
‘Inspired’ by Plymouth Scientologist’s "Free Stress Test" (yes, they actually go round the city offering a free stress test - guess what: you are steressed and Scientology is your answer!). We would like to style ours “Free Reality Check“ and give some illustrations of the spacemen and spahgetti monsters involved in Scientology. I’m sure you can imagine for yourselves the fun we will have with it, quite aside from the new members we could gain and the good we will be doing for the community. So it’s a case of Humanists need joiners ;-)
The barrow itself is just a couple of wheels, a wooden deck and some handles. It needs to act as a table for Humanist literature and should have a 'backboard' that we can attach posters to. I am told that if we agrivate the Scientologists, bad things will happen to us! Bring it on. Please leave a message if you can help – thanks.

On behalf of the Plymouth Humanists

Hi Paul,

Great idea! The Press should pick this up.

If you could take a couple of photographs, I'm sure that we can get some national publicity on this from the BHA and other organisations.

I see from Wednesday's copy of The Herald that the "Church" of Scientology has bought the Royal Fleet Hotel in Plymouth for a million pounds and is going to turn it into a "bold" and "prominent" new church. there is at present a building in Plymouth used as a church but is apparently too small with only 3,000 to 4,000 sq. ft. of floor space. According to a spokesman for the Scientologists there are about 12,000 scientologists in the region and numbers are growing fast.

The new building will have about 150 paid staff and vvolunteers and will host community events and functions. The spokeswoman claims they wan to assist in the community and play a productive part. "Outreach workers would be looking to work within the Devonport community helping the local police"

I am extremely alarmed at this development and am pleased to hear that Plymouth Humanists have already grasped the nettle. They certainly need our support in this.

I will just add that when a scientology stall appeared in Totnes market some years ago I contacted the market manager and complained about its presence because I considered it was inappropriate for a so-called religion to be proselytising there. I haven't seen any sign of it since.

There are some comments from ex-scientologists from Plymouth on an ex-scientologists website.
